A-Level Textiles
I produced this corset dress for an A-Level textiles project that looked at fabric manipulation. It is still one of my favourite pieces today. This dress provoked negative reactions from the older generations that walked passed the bridal shop window, one old man commenting that "she can't wear that, it's all ripped and not finished". As far as me and my boss were concerned, it was a success because it provoked a reaction and made people stop and think.
ND Art and Design
The following items are all from my Final major project at college, I had to cover many aspects of art and design such as painting, 3D and illustration. I also handed in the Titania work from the competiton section.
Below: This dress and waist corset was made for my painting section. It Linked with the Titania work that was a big part of my project. I hand painted the entire gown, batiking lillies all over it, and around the bottom, I applied cut out petals into lily shapes and beaded the stamen. The sleeves turned out like cloud formations, this was as a result of drying them flat. The waist corset was free machine embroidered with lily shapes, trapping down cut out sections of organza in different colours. I did not want to paint a painting in its traditional form; everything I produced was aimed at clothing.

Below: I created sculptural corsets as art for 3D, still looking at Titania, I made one paper corset that had printed on it, sections of text from the play. I then produced three other corsets that depicted different stages of her life. The wire one reflecting her pain and growing age, and the plaster one representing her death. Only the wire one is shown on this site as the others have either perished or are lost.
The corset directly below is made of leather and papermache over a chicken wire frame, it sat on a huge crinoline skirt of flexible wood and willow. It was a sculptural dress intended for Titania.
Bottom corset: this is made from raffia and was just an experimental piece in weaving.

Below: For my illustration section, I looked at experimenting with different ways of illustrating and developing my own style. Directly below and studies in pen of my own shoes. I love sketching in pen however I also love working in soft and oil pastels. Other images shown below include screen printing and working into screen prints with embellishment. All the lower illustrations were either studies of, or inspired by Thierry Perez.
