Developing Practise: Live Eco Brief
This brief was given to us by sustainable brand 'Green Fibres'. We had to research and consider eco friendly and sustainable fabrics.
This was the first unit I was able to apply lingerie to. For my research I looked at 40's and 50's style, especially underwear, it was a great era for the progression of lingerie. Marylin Monroe was a key point of reference. I also looked at old Jazz, funk and soul music and new music that is inspired by it, I love to use music as a source of inspiration. My spider diagram led me in a circle of inspiration, to Africa, where I explored cultural traditions and stylings, it also linked well with the eco element because of the problems with pesticides and cotton farming in West Africa. I researched into eco designers such as Katherin Hamnett and lingerie brand Eco-Boudoir, amongst others.
I used silk and hemp blend fabrics as well as bamboo jersey. I also looked at various mediums of decoration, Africa was great inspiration for beading and weaving and the 1940's were brilliant for stitch detail. I also looked at natural beads such as wood or bone.
I produced a girdle and a bra which I draped on the stand, that incorporated line stitching details and bone beading on the bra.
