Negotiated Studies

As the title suggests, for this unit I had to write my own learning agreement, with the stipulation being that one of the final garments must be a tailored piece. I wanted to bring more lingerie in again, to get practise before I entered level 6. I also wanted to work with leather and look at print as I had not worked with them before.

My research looked at illusion and colour theory. I wanted to create an hourglass silhouette. As well as the meaning of the colours driving the selection, the colours I chose for the fabrics where also dictated to by the colour of the leather I chose, I used old leather that had been given to me when a leather worker retired therefore the colour options were restricted. I wanted to create my own patterns and looked into how to apply them. I chose to use batik painting on the silk and lazer cut the leather.

I chose two samples in different leathers that worked well, one being mocha coloured and the other rich brown. By this point I wanted to use bright pink so the mocha did not work.

I hand dyed both the blue wool on the jacket and the pink on the silk, I also hand batiked the entire lining of the jacket and the corset as well as the knickers.

I found the jacket very difficult to make and was dissapointed when the fusable started to bubble where the wool stretched but I love the shape and concept.

My idea was that you could wear the corset with the skirt and jacket to a posh function, then when you got home, you could remove the jacket and skirt and be left with a beautiful lingerie set.
Below is the final outfit board, I designed two outfits that can be worn as one and swapped and changed around as the wearer pleases. (Note: the skirt is not photographed as it was two small for my model)

Below: Collection boards, with samples. The orchid was of big inspiration to me as it can look like many different things, some images I found of orchid species looked like a dog or a lions face.
