Work Experience: Ayten Gasson

In Easter 2008, I got to meet hand made silk, luxury lingerie designer, Ayten Gasson. I did a short work placement with her at her studio in London. Jobs included, cutting out garments to be made, sewing some garments with Ayten, travelling around London to buy fabrics and trimmings, organising her trimming boxes, visiting potential factories for expansion plans and generally talking with Ayten about how she started her business and what is involved in running it. I had a really good time with Ayten as she is very open and willing to help others.

Work Experience: Manufacturing company

in 2007 I undertook work experience at Blue Horizon, CMT factory in Hamworthy, Poole. I got to experience different specialist machinery and speak with the workers about what happens, how long each item takes and how they price things. I also got to use the machinery to make my own bra and knicker out of their scrap fabric bin.

Short course: Beaded jewellery

In 2006 I took lessons in beaded jewellery techniques, I have applied this to my University projects and consider it key to my Unique Selling Point, so I have given it its own page.

Short course: Victorian Corset Cutting Workshop

In 2007 I attended a Victorian Corset Cutting workshop where I was taught history about different corsets, and how to pattern make a corset to my own body measurements. I then made the toile and the Teacher advised me on how I could improve it for fit and aesthetically for my body shape.
